Darkrun (PvP)

Introduction

In Season 1 players managed to open the Gateways to Dark City. Now, it’s time to build its infrastructure. But first, the Moon Runners want citizens to have some time to relax before the real work begins. An Arena has been devised to promote some friendly competition. To complement the everyday Netrunning introduced in season 1, a Darkrun will be opened for everyone to compete for the prizes. To inaugurate the arena, and celebrate the release of season 1.5, a tournament has been launched. At the end of the season, the top rated players at the Scoreboard will share a prize of a combined amount of 10,000 USD worth in BTC.

Joining Darkruns, players will take turns trying to breach each others mainframes to win the match. Players will either rise or fall in the ELO ranking depending on whether they win or lose, and the amount is decided by the opponents ELO rank.

Darkrun objective

The goal of the Darkrun is to reduce the enemy’s Breach Resistance to 0. To achieve this, players use Attack and Penetration software. Every attack can to raise the enemy’s Alert Level, if the Alert Level exceeds 100 the attacking player will have their CPU damaged. Obfuscation and Anonymity software can be used to reduce enemy’s Alert Level.

  • Two mainframes connect and try to breach each other.
  • Use attack and penetration software to reduce the opponent’s Breach Resistance.
  • The player that reduces the opponent’s Breach Resistance to zero wins the Darkrun.
  • Attacking raises the targeted network’s alert level.
  • If the enemy alert level reaches 100%, any further increases will damage the attacker’s CPU.

The rules of engagement

  • The combat is turn-based
  • Each turn has a maximum of 30 seconds
  • Each player can make one action per turn
  • The maximum number of turns is 50
  • The player with the lowest Breach Resistance after 50 turns loses (if both players have the same Breach Resistance, the player with higher Alarm Level wins)

Player Actions (on their turn)

  • Run Software: Execute programs to attack the opponent or maintain your mainframe. (Note: Running EchoEye increases your own alert level.)

ELO ranking

After the end of Season 1.5, the top 10 players (based on their ELO) will be rewarded with BTC.

All players start with the ELO rank of 1500. The rank will either rise or decline depending on the outcome of the matches a player participated previously.
The difference in the ratings between two players serves as a predictor of the outcome of a match. Two players with equal ratings who play against each other are expected to score an equal number of wins.

  • A player’s Elo rating is a number which may change depending on the outcome of rated games played.
  • After each game, the winner takes points from the loser.
  • The difference between the ratings of the winner and loser determines the total number of points gained or lost after a game.
  • If the higher-rated player wins, then only a few rating points will be taken from the lower-rated player.
